Flyers will listen, but plan to keep No. 2 pick

The Philadelphia Flyers are planning to keep the No. 2 overall draft pick in June's draft, meaning either Nolan Patrick or Nico Hischier will likely be heading to the City of Brotherly Love.

Flyers general manager Ron Hextall said Monday the team will listen to offers, but are unlikely to make a trade after moving up 11 spots in the draft lottery.

I expect to pick, Hextall said, per the Courier Post. I dont expect to move it, but never say never. Wed be doing the organization a disservice by not listening. Well listen and if something intriguing comes up well talk about it, but I would anticipate making the pick.

"We better get the first or second-best player in the draft if we do make the pick. Thats obviously what youre obviously trying to do. Its not a perfect science, but Im comfortable that our (scouts) have done their work.

Patrick and Hischier are widely considered the top two talents in this year's draft, though both come with their fair share of question marks. For Patrick, a history of injuries, including a twice-broken collarbone, is atop the list.

An injury history on any player you look at whether youre making a trade, free agent, the draft, Hextall said. And then it comes down to the types of injuries and what precipitated the injuries. Is a player injury prone? Is it bad luck? Was he diagnosed properly? Theres so many things that go into it. Well do our due diligence with (Patrick) and other players as well.
