Report: Flyers hire Brent Flahr to be Chuck Fletchers assistant again

While Chuck Fletcher mulls over his first move that affects the Flyersa€™ roster, his first acquisition is in the front office to help down the road.

According to Michael Russo of the Athletic, Fletcher hired his old right-hand man in Minnesota, Brent Flahr, to fill the same role in Philadelphia. The Flyers fired assistant general manager Chris Pryor two days after firing Ron Hextall earlier this month. Pryor was the main player at the draft table for the Flyers and was one point the scouting director. Flahr similarly oversaw amateur scouting for Fletcher and the Wild and was the biggest voice at the draft.

The hire was no surprise considering the history between the two men. Fletcher said he would begin looking for a replacement assistant when he was hired and his list didna€™t even go to a second person. Flahr, 44, was hired by Fletcher as an assistant general manager in 2009 after two seasons as a director of hockey operations in Ottawa and previous stops with the Anaheim Ducks and Florida Panthers as a scout. Both with the Ducks and Panthers, Flahr worked alongside Fletcher.
